Sleep: The importance of routine

There are plenty of reasons that buying a new mattress is the most important furniture purchase you can make. But there are also some things you can do to increase the amount (and quality) of your sleep before you make the buying leap.

The Better Sleep Council gives several tips for making bedtime a better experience.

Probably the most important action you can take is to make sure that you like your bedroom. Take out all of the things that distract you from sleep (computers, tv...etc). Trust me, even though you think you need tv, science says that you'll sleep better if you avoid it.

You should also finish eating and exercising several hours before going to bed. Exercising right before sleeping can cause you to sleep "hot" which goes against what your body naturally wants.

Once you have established a relaxed and homey atmosphere go out and find a mattress set that fits you. Try out several and take time to lie down for several minutes on each one. Finding a good bed is one of the best decisions you can make for getting better, healthier sleep.
